Small World Music
Location: Downtown Toronto
September 22nd 2011 - To - October 3rd 2011
Small World Music Society is a charitable organization that presented its first event in 1997. Since then, close to 300 presentations have solidified its reputation as Toronto’s most adventurous and visionary world music concert presenter.
The Small World concert experience can range from international giants of traditional and contemporary world music in the city’s grandest performance spaces, to emerging local artists in intimate club settings. Supported in part by funding from three levels of government, we present roughly 50 concerts annually, with the annual Small World Music Festival being one of the highlights of Toronto’s busy fall arts calendar.
Many of our productions are partnerships with groups from every corner of Toronto’s remarkably diverse global Diaspora. We take great pride in collaborating with these communities as they experience their cultural heroes here at home, while exposing the entire city to new sounds and contributing to essential cultural dialogue and understanding.
Small World’s founder and executive director is Alan Davis, who over two decades in music programming, has become one of Canada’s most respected arts community members. He leads a dedicated, passionate team who are working to enhance Small World’s programming, promotion, community outreach and business development. All of which support the objective of using the power of music to build bridges between cultures.
